Why We Designed ChronoHits Music Bingo This Way

How it started

Games like Hitster have made music board games incredibly popular in recent years—and for good reason. Hitster Bingo has become my favourite version of the popular music board game. I still love playing it with friends or family on a game night. Unfortunately, not every night is a game night (although that might get a bit tiring after a while).

That’s why we’re introducing ChronoHits Bingo! Same basic principles, same fun, but now on your phone or tablet. You can take it on the road, or just play a quick session with your friends anytime!

Bingo mode requires a different kind of music knowledge

Music fans don’t all know the same things. Some people instantly recognize artists. Others know release years. Some remember lyrics but never the title.

Rather than rewarding just one type of knowledge, we built five different question categories that rotate throughout the game. A song you’ve heard hundreds of times can suddenly become difficult simply because today’s question is different from the one you expected.

That variety keeps games unpredictable, even when the playlist is familiar.

Timeline and Bingo complement each other surprisingly well. Timeline rewards your sense of music history, while Bingo constantly switches between different kinds of music knowledge. Some evenings we end up playing both, depending on what the group feels like.

We wanted everyone to stay involved

One thing we noticed while playing traditional music quizzes is that strong players often dominate the room. Someone knows the answer immediately, everyone else waits for the next song.

Bingo changes that dynamic.

Every player has a different card and is working towards a different winning line. Even if another player answers quickly, you’re still chasing your own board.

Knowledge matters—but so does the shape of your card and a little bit of luck. That combination keeps games competitive without making beginners feel left behind.

Designed for groups—but fun alone too

ChronoHits was always intended to be a social game. Playing with friends is where Bingo mode is at its best.

At the same time, we wanted Bingo to be something you could enjoy whenever you had a few spare minutes. That’s why every mode is also available as a solo game.

You can practice, discover new music and improve your knowledge before bringing those skills into your next multiplayer session.

How Music Bingo works in ChronoHits

Bingo is a ChronoHits game mode where song clips fill out a bingo-style card. When you correctly identify the track for the chosen question, you mark a matching square. The first player to complete a line wins.

How it works: one of five question categories is selected at random:

• What is the title?
• Who is the artist?
• What is the year of release (± 1 year)?
• Which decade?
• Solo artist or band?

Each player answers the chosen question for the current track. If they answer correctly, they mark a cell on their card. The first player to complete a full row, column, or diagonal wins!

Looking ahead

We’re already working on new categories, playlists and game modes, and many of our favourite ideas have come directly from player feedback. ChronoHits continues to evolve with every update.

ChronoHits was never meant to be a digital copy of a boardgame. It was designed to become its own kind of music videogame. That why we are still committed to improving the experience

More than Bingo mode

ChronoHits Bingo is only one part of ChronoHits.

The game also includes Timeline mode, themed categories, achievements and progression systems that encourage players to keep exploring music from different genres.

Rather than replacing classic Music Bingo, our goal was to build something inspired by it—a game that captures the same excitement while adding more strategy, more variety and far more replayability.

Music Bingo FAQ

Is Music Bingo only for experts?

No — but ChronoHits Bingo categories often require more music knowledge than timeline mode. Beginners usually enjoy starting with the classic timeline, then trying Bingo.

Do I print cards myself?

No. ChronoHits is a mobile app on iPhone and Android. You play digitally rather than assembling paper bingo sheets. New songs are added regularly.

Is ChronoHits Bingo free?

Yes. Download and play for free. Ads may appear; an optional purchase removes ads.

How many devices can play simultaneously?

Up to 4 devices/players can play at the same time.

Can I play alone?

Yes. While best for multiplayer (up to 4 players), you can practice alone. Go to: New Game > New Practice Game (solo).
